Open AmeriCorps positions at Bur Oak Land Trust

AmeriCorps Crew Member

The AmeriCorps Stewardship Crew is essential to the management and restoration of Bur Oak Land Trust properties and other protected properties the land trust serves in eastern Iowa. Stewardship Crew Members will serve on a 4-member crew led by a Crew Leader to train and use a variety of land management techniques to restore native habitat and remove invasive plant species including prescribed fire, chainsaws and other tools to contribute to the overall biological health of area lands.

Each member will choose a training track during the term: Data Collection and Analysis, Environmental Education or Disaster Response. Tracks may include some of the following training programs:

S-130/S-190 firefighter certification, CPR/First Aid certification, ATV training, Part 107 drone pilot certification, Fire ecology training, Interpretive guide certification, GPS and electronic data collection devices, Small engine repair and equipment maintenance, Leave-No-Trace and “Authority of the Resource,” Land management plans and documents training, Wilderness First Aid

  • 11 months, Sept. 2023 to Aug. 2024
  • Living allowance ($18,700/year), education award, health insurance
  • Chainsaw and prescribed fire training

The service term for this position is 11 months, with a typical service schedule of 40 hours per week in the field, Monday through Friday. The position starts September 1, 2023 and ends mid-August 2024. The Crew Member is responsible for serving a minimum of 1,700 hours, completing required service tasks, and serving until August to successfully complete their term.
