AmeriCorps Crew Leader
The AmeriCorps Stewardship Crew is essential to the management and restoration of Bur Oak Land Trust properties and other protected properties the land trust serves in eastern Iowa. Stewardship Crew Leaders will guide a 4-member crew in using a variety of land management techniques to restore native habitat and remove invasive plant species including prescribed fire, chainsaws and other tools to contribute to the overall biological health of these lands. Leaders will also support land trust partnerships with landowners, and local organizations and agencies through programs and volunteer opportunities.
The service term for this position is 11 months, with a typical service schedule of 40 hours per week in the field, Monday through Friday. The position starts September 1, 2023 and ends mid-August 2024. The Crew Leader is responsible for serving a minimum of 1,700 hours, completing required service tasks, and serving until August to successfully complete their term.

AmeriCorps Environmental Educator
The AmeriCorps Environmental Educator will improve the communities’ understanding of and exposure to the local natural environment, specifically regarding Bur Oak Land Trust’s preserves, through education and outreach in Johnson County. The Environmental Educator will plan and coordinate education and outreach opportunities for the public and raise awareness of issues impacting the environment.
The service term for this position is 11 months, with a typical service schedule of 40 hours per week in the field, Monday through Friday. The position starts September 1, 2023 and ends mid-August 2024. The Crew Member is responsible for serving a minimum of 1,700 hours, completing required service tasks, and serving until August to successfully complete their term.
