Kate really enjoys working outside and is looking forward to gaining land stewardship expertise by learning prescribed fire, tree felling, and leading volunteers and crews in the field. She decided to join Bur Oak Land Trust’s AmeriCorps program because of the opportunity to build her certifications – like wildland fire, pesticide applicators, and more. She feels that habitat restoration within oak savannas is a pressing environmental concern, especially in relation to saving several endangered species identified on Bur Oak Land Trust properties by opening up the canopy near large oaks and encouraging oak regeneration.

Kate knows that by being a part of Bur Oak Land Trust’s AmeriCorps program, she will complete the program with much more knowledge under her belt, and feels that completing the available program certifications will help her stand out amongst other candidates as she reaches for her future career goals.
