Prairie Preview turns 40 and we’re celebrating!

For four decades, Prairie Preview has been a special time for environmentalists, conservationists, and nature lovers around Johnson County to come together for a greener Iowa. What started as a small gathering has blossomed into a highly anticipated environmental fair that brings together organizations, advocates, and community members to celebrate, learn, and take action for our natural world. As we mark the 40th anniversary of this beloved event, we’re pulling out all the stops to make this year’s Prairie Preview bigger and more impactful than ever!

A Bigger and Better Exhibitor Fair

On May 14 at the Iowa Memorial Union, Prairie Preview will host more than 35 environmental organizations from across the state. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with local and regional groups dedicated to conservation, sustainability, and environmental education. Whether you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, curious about local conservation projects, or simply eager to learn more about Iowa’s natural landscapes, the exhibitor fair is the perfect place to engage with passionate experts and fellow community members!

The fair showcases a diverse range of efforts aimed at protecting and enhancing our environment. Expect interactive booths, hands-on activities, and valuable insights on how you can make a difference in your own backyard and beyond.

A Special Presentation by Robin Wall Kimmerer

To make this celebration even more special, we are thrilled to welcome Robin Wall Kimmerer, acclaimed author of “Braiding Sweetgrass,” for a special presentation on May 20 at The Englert Theatre. Kimmerer’s work beautifully weaves together indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and a deep respect for the natural world. Her talk will explore themes of restoration, reciprocity, and our connection to the land, offering an inspiring perspective on how we can establish a more sustainable and balanced relationship with nature.

Kimmerer’s presentation is a rare and exciting opportunity for our community to hear from one of the most influential voices in environmental thought today. General and VIP tickets are on sale now and going fast! VIP includes access to a pre-event reception with food, drinks and a special book signing with Robin. Get your tickets before they’re gone!
