AMERICORPS CREW MEMBER
POSITIONS AT BUR OAK
The AmeriCorps Stewardship Crew is essential to the management and restoration of Bur Oak Land Trust properties and other protected properties the land trust serves in eastern Iowa. Stewardship Crew Members will serve on a 4-member crew led by a Crew Leader to train and use a variety of land management techniques to restore native habitat and remove invasive plant species including prescribed fire, chainsaws and other tools to contribute to the overall biological health of area lands.

TIME INVESTMENT
The service term for this position is 12 months, with a typical service schedule of 40 hours per week in the field, Monday through Friday. The position starts September and ends the following August. The Crew Member is responsible for serving a minimum of 1,700 hours, completing required service tasks, and serving until August to successfully complete their term.

Each member will choose a training track during the term: Data Collection and Analysis, Environmental Education or Disaster Response. Tracks may include some of the following training programs:
- S-130/S-190 Firefighter Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification

- Fire Ecology Training
- Interpretive Guide Certification
- GPS and Electronic Data Collection Devices

AMERICORPS TEAM
Through the Bur Oak Land Trust AmeriCorps program, members serve year-round to improve Iowa’s lands and ecosystems, provide environmental education to encourage continued care for nature, and strengthen community connections to the outdoors.
These dedicated individuals provide invaluable services for the outdoors on Bur Oak preserves, and lands within Johnson County and throughout eastern Iowa. Members receive a monthly stipend, training, certifications, networking opportunities and critical field experience.
Since 2019, the AmeriCorps program has enrolled 50+ members who completed more than 55,000 hours of service, served in 19 Iowa counties, and improved more than 400 acres of land per year.
