Together We Can Save the Grove

Conserve. Protect. Grow. The Campaign to Save the Grove
This is an exciting time at Bur Oak Land Trust! We are engaged in Conserve. Protect. Grow. The Campaign to Save the Grove, a capital campaign to raise $700,000 for the purchase of 40 acres of natural woodland and for the stewardship of Bur Oak Land Trust properties.
Big Grove Addition is 40 acres of natural woodland in Solon, contiguous to Bur Oak Land Trust’s 40-acre Big Grove Preserve and near the Coralville Reservoir. With the purchase of Big Grove Addition, our Big Grove property will increase in size to 80 acres.
Big Grove Addition matters!
It is rare in Iowa to have 80 acres of contiguous woodland open to the public. Such a relatively large area of land is immeasurable for the health of the land, animals, and residents of Johnson and surrounding counties.
As Johnson County and surrounding counties witness intense development, the residents witness the diminishing woodland, prairie, and other natural areas. Approximately 98% of Iowa’s land is privately owned, and Iowa’s landscape is among the most altered in the country. There is a significant limit to the natural areas residents can visit for recreation or simply to enjoy nature. With a successful capital campaign, Bur Oak Land Trust will protect and conserve Big Grove Addition for current and future generations. Big Grove Addition matters also to the survival of native species of birds, bees, and mammals who depend on the conservation of native habitat for survival.
You matter!
A successful capital campaign depends on our community pulling together to save the land. Thank you to those who have given to Conserve. Protect. Grow. The Campaign to Save the Grove. If you have not given, check your mailbox in the next few days for information about the capital campaign.
