Annual Campaign and Stewardship Manager
Purpose of Position: The Annual Campaign and Stewardship Manager is an integral part of Bur Oak Land Trust’s leadership team. This role is responsible for leading strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program. He/she will be responsible for planning, executing, and coordinating all solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship strategies for donors below the major gift level.
Bur Oak Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) conservation nonprofit based in Iowa City, Iowa. Founded in 1978, the land trust aims to advance biodiversity in Eastern Iowa by acquiring and managing prairies, woodlands, wetlands and other resilient landscapes, and connecting people to nature.
Key Responsibilities:
65% Fund Development
- Work collaboratively with the Communication Director and Executive Director to manage an appeal schedule for the Annual Campaign
- Develop all content for mail and email appeals
- Manage donor benefit structures, organize segmentation and ask strings, and all coordinated efforts to renew previous gifts and cultivate new gifts from individuals
- Create and execute a plan for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of donors
- Create and manage a calendar/schedule of multidimensional appeals that leverages a variety of media (e.g., electronic solicitation, direct mail appeals, face-to-face solicitations, events) to communicate with potential and current donors
- Identify new prospects and grow corporate sponsorship program
- Assist Executive Director with annual fundraising planning, prospect identification, and advise on improvements in processes, infrastructure, and systems to improve fund development and donor retention
- Assess the effectiveness of the fundraising strategy and implementation
20% Stewardship
- Focus on creating processes, strategies, and community engagement efforts to grow and retain donor and membership base
- Working with the Bur Oak Leadership Team, drive donor cultivation, appreciation, and community engagement efforts
- Coordinate and manage annual impact report and meeting
- Contribute content to publications and social media as appropriate
15% Data Management and Gift Processing
- Create weekly donation report
- Process gifts in donor database and maintain best practices for data hygiene
- Create tax letters and thank you notes
- Alert executive director and board when major gifts arrive and help prepare appropriate recognition
- Assist with prospect research
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Proven track record managing an annual campaign
- Direct experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Ability to drive fundraising strategies and manage projects from creation to completion
- Knowledge of fund development principles and fundraising best practices
- Demonstrated ability to lead a project, collaborate with colleagues and engage others
- Familiarity with donor database and/or willingness to learn gift processing and data management
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, written and soft skills
- Must have experience in written and verbal donor communications
- Ability to drive project goals while maintaining flexibility
- Ability to coordinate and work well with diverse communication styles both internally and externally
- Self-directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Salary and Benefits
- $50,000-$57,000 annual salary, depending on experience
- $600 monthly insurance and retirement stipend
